Electronic repeat dispensing is a process that allows us to automatically issue a batch of repeat prescriptions for a maximum of 6 months or until you need to be reviewed. The prescriptions are then available for collection at your nominated pharmacy.
Using ERD has a number of benefits:
- Saves time - by using ERD this means that you do not need to request your medication every month; instead your prescription will be ready to collect when needed from your pharmacy.
- Easier management - ERD is easier for the NHS to manage, meaning that medicine use stays safe, effective and efficient.
- Reduced costs - processing fewer requests could save the NHS £millions each year in manpower and resources.
- Reliable, secure and confidential - unlike traditional prescriptions, electronic prescriptions can not get lost between us and the pharmacy.
Note: This service can only be used for regular monthly items. If there are specific items (such as creams/inhalers) that are only used as and when required then these will not be prescribed automatically and will need to be ordered manually.
